Oh, Sleepless Night…

There’s nothing worse than waking up in the middle of the night, suddenly unable to fall back asleep. You spend the next few fitful hours tossing and turning, staring into your phone or at the clock, trying to will your body back to sleep. Before you know it, it’s time to wake up. An extra strong bulletproof coffee is your only hope for making it through the day. Luckily, Brothers has your back. Read on for our top five all natural tips to help you fall back asleep (and stay asleep through the night).*

1. Don’t Watch The Clock

One of the worst things you can do when you wake up in the middle of the night is laying there in the dark, staring at your clock. Watching the minutes tick by and realizing how much sleep you’re losing out on will only stress you out, activating your nervous system and making you feel more alert instead of sleepy. Turn your clock away and focus on step 2 instead.*

2. Practice Deep Breathing

Try and keep your mind and body as relaxed as possible by giving your mind something else to focus on besides the fact that you can’t fall asleep. As you lie in bed, progressively tense and relax each of your muscle groups. Start from your head, neck and shoulders and work your way down to your toes. Count your breaths, and slow your breathing.*

3. Try Meditating

As you’re working on slowing your breathing, try meditating. Keep a Restful CBD Essential Oil Roller on your nightstand, and swab a little of this calming lavender, jojoba, marjoram, chamomile, valerian, bergamot, ylang-ylang and hemp-derived CBD distillate on your pulse points and temples. Breathe in the soothing aroma, and visualize yourself drifting deeper and deeper into dreamland.*

4. Put Down That Phone

Believe me, I know how tempting it is to distract yourself by watching TV or scrolling through Instagram or Twitter when you can’t sleep. As tempting as that screen is, the blue light from your devices actually tricks your brain into thinking it’s daytime. The longer you stare into your phone screen, the more awake you’ll feel. If you’re hoping to get back to sleep, keep your devices turned off.*

4.  If You’re Still Awake After 15 Minutes, Get Up And Leave The Room

I know I said not to stare at your clock, but just trust your gut on this one. If it feels like you’ve been tossing and turning for more than 15 to 20 minutes, get up out of bed and leave your bedroom. Post up on the couch in another room, and do a boring, low-key activity by lamplight. This is the perfect time to break out that jigsaw puzzle, or pick up that boring book. While you’re up, brew yourself a mug of caffeine-free Golden Dream Hemp CBD Tea. The point is to stop your brain from associating your bed with sleeplessness.*

Bonus: Pop Some Melatonin

If you know you have a hard time getting to and staying asleep (or if you just need to get a good night’s rest), try popping a couple melatonin capsules about 15 minutes before you’re going to hit the hay. Brothers Sleep Aid | CBD + Valerian, Chamomile & Skull Cap Melatonin capsules are formulated with three powerful herbal ingredients to reduce anxiety, insomnia and tension. With 3mg of melatonin and 8mg of CBD per dose, these capsules are your first, best defense for getting a good night’s rest!*
