What are CBD gummies made of?
A CBD gummy is a chewable edible built on a few core ingredients. Here is what each one does and the cleaner alternatives to look for.
1. The gummy base
This is what gives a gummy its chew. The two common options are very different:
- Gelatin comes from animal collagen, so it is not vegetarian or vegan.
- Pectin comes from fruit and is plant based.
Some makers, like us, skip a traditional starch or gelatin base entirely and build the gummy around real honey instead.
2. The sweetener
This is where the biggest quality gap shows up. Many gummies lead with high fructose corn syrup or refined cane sugar. Cleaner options include real honey, maple, or fruit-based sweeteners. We use raw Oregon honey as the base sweetener instead of corn syrup, which is the single biggest difference between our Honey Drops and a standard gummy.
3. The CBD extract
The CBD itself comes in three forms, and the label should say which one it uses:
- Full-spectrum keeps the whole hemp profile, including a legal trace of THC under 0.3%, for the entourage effect.
- Broad-spectrum keeps multiple hemp compounds but removes the THC.
- Isolate is pure CBD only.
