Most CBD gummies are made from four things: a gummy base, a sweetener, a CBD extract, and a flavor or coating. The quality of a gummy comes down to which version of each one a brand chooses. This article breaks down the typical CBD gummies ingredients one by one, shows which ones are worth avoiding, and explains how to read a label so you know what you are actually eating.

What are CBD gummies made of?

A CBD gummy is a chewable edible built on a few core ingredients. Here is what each one does and the cleaner alternatives to look for.

1. The gummy base

This is what gives a gummy its chew. The two common options are very different:

  • Gelatin comes from animal collagen, so it is not vegetarian or vegan.
  • Pectin comes from fruit and is plant based.

Some makers, like us, skip a traditional starch or gelatin base entirely and build the gummy around real honey instead.

2. The sweetener

This is where the biggest quality gap shows up. Many gummies lead with high fructose corn syrup or refined cane sugar. Cleaner options include real honey, maple, or fruit-based sweeteners. We use raw Oregon honey as the base sweetener instead of corn syrup, which is the single biggest difference between our Honey Drops and a standard gummy.

3. The CBD extract

The CBD itself comes in three forms, and the label should say which one it uses:

  • Full-spectrum keeps the whole hemp profile, including a legal trace of THC under 0.3%, for the entourage effect.
  • Broad-spectrum keeps multiple hemp compounds but removes the THC.
  • Isolate is pure CBD only.

Our Honey Drops use full-spectrum, US-grown hemp.

4. Flavor and coating

Cheaper gummies use artificial flavors, synthetic dyes, and a refined sugar coating. Cleaner gummies use real fruit and spice. Ours are flavored with 100% real lemon and ginger, or real orange and turmeric, and finished with a natural water-soluble vitamin C coating rather than a sugar dusting. We focus on simple formulas that work, like combining powerful compounds like CBD and Turmeric, in one tasty gummy!

Typical CBD gummy ingredients vs ours

Ingredient Typical gummy Our Honey Drops
Sweetener High fructose corn syrup 100% organic wildflower honey
Base Animal gelatin 100% fruit based pectin
Flavor Artificial flavor and dyes 100% real fruit and spices
Coating Refined sugar Natural vitamin C & organic cane
CBD Often isolate Full-spectrum US hemp
Testing Varies Third-party lab-tested every batch

CBD gummy ingredients to avoid

  • High fructose corn syrup and long lists of refined sugars.
  • Artificial dyes and flavors when a real-food version exists.
  • Vague labels that do not state the CBD per piece or the extract type.
  • No Certificate of Analysis (COA), which means no independent proof of what is inside.

How to read a CBD gummy label

Three checks tell you most of what you need to know. First, find the CBD amount per piece, not just per bottle. Second, look for the extract type (full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, or isolate). Third, find the batch COA, which is the third-party lab result for that batch. If a brand makes those three easy to find, that is a good sign. You can view our lab results here.

What’s in our Honey Drops

Our CBD gummies were built to be the clean version of every ingredient above. They are sweetened with raw Willamette Valley honey, made with full-spectrum US hemp, flavored with real fruit and spice, finished with a natural vitamin C coating, and lab-tested every batch. No corn syrup and no gelatin.

What CBD gummy ingredients should I avoid?
High fructose corn syrup, artificial dyes and flavors, and any product without a clear CBD-per-piece amount or a batch COA.
